Atlantic City, House of Blues, baby.

Hey there. I see there's not much activity in this tribe but I'm gonna post anyway because I just saw Ani rock out the House of Blues in Atlantic City. This was my first time ever being to AC, what a surreal town, but hooo lawd it was a sweeeet show it was. Ani was just glowin up there on stage. She did a lot of stuff from Reprieve, she did Little Plastic Castle which made me scream (me=nerd) and she ended up the encore with 32 Flavors.

This was just the little dose of heaven this ol heart needed to get thru the winter.

Talked to a rep at the office in Buffalo today to send a request for a silent auction gift and yeah, she's pregnant but taking the baby on tour....I was out of the ani loop for a minute so it may not be news but i loved hearing about it today. They are also moving to the church location soon...sweet mate!

ANI’S BACK ON THE ROAD
The rumors are true, after a short hiatus from touring Ani DiFranco is easing back onto the road with select festival and theater dates. This year, the touring will be a little different, with Ani focusing on smaller, more intimate venues in general. April finds the Little Folksinger at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Friday the 28, after shows in Columbia, MO; Nashville, TN; and Atlanta, GA. Last June Ani announced she would be taking a break from touring after 15 continuous years of performing. She’s not likely to revert back to her previous schedule of over 100 gigs a year, so be sure to catch her while you can. Click here for tour dates and ticketing information.

I am wondering, hoping, imploring that if anyone is going to go to this New Yorker Panel at which Ani will be participating (along with Steve Albini, Ric Ocasek and RZA) : "Stage to Studio" Saturday September 24, 2005 at 4:00PM at Times Square Stuudios, 1500 Broadway NYC----

Could someone please please PLEASE record (either audio or ideally, video) and share with me (and perhaps others in the tribe who may be interested). I would certainly do whatever I could to facilitate the process (send blank tapes, DVDs-pay any shipping ang packing or material costs). Please let me know. I would be very grateful!!!

ANI SURVIVES KATRINA
In case you were wondering Ani is OK. She evacuated her home-away-from-home in New Orleans the day before Katrina hit. Despite the article in Rolling Stone she is not too distraught to speak, but understandably a bit distracted. In fact we are happy to report that all of our extended Righteous Babe Records family and friends from the area are safe and healthy. Our hearts are with all those affected by the storm.

ani is taking a break!! tour is cancelled!!

THE LITTLE FOLKSINGER TAKES A BREAK FROM THE ROAD…
After 15 years of non-stop touring, often performing over 100 gigs per year, Ani DiFranco will take a hiatus from live performance, after the current July tour ends, until summer 2006.

Over the past few months, Ani has suffered from an inflammation of the nerves and tendons in both her wrists and hands. After having received a diagnosis of tendonitis in late spring, Ani’s doctor instructed her to follow a regimen of relative rest, restriction of hand use to critical times, non-steroidal medications, and splinting. Unfortunately, after having taken almost three months off from touring earlier this year to treat her condition, Ani’s problems have not decreased in severity. If she were to continue to perform at this time, she would risk permanent nerve damage to her hands. Therefore, the decision was made to cancel upcoming tours, starting with the West Coast tour planned for late August and early September 2005, and provide Ani with a sufficient amount of time to make a full recovery.

For those who already have tickets to one of the cancelled performances, please check with the people you purchased the tickets from for instructions on receiving a refund.

Although the Little Folksinger will be off the road, naturally she will not be quiet. Several new recording projects with longtime friends are in the works, along with a new album from Ani anticipated for 2006. She will also still participate as a featured speaker in the New Yorker Festival on September 24 in New York City.

We are deeply grateful for the understanding and concern from all of you who have supported Ani’s touring career over these many years. We know that great things are coming on the horizon, and we look forward to sharing them with you in the coming months.

i found this album at the record/book store i work at that has ani, julianna hatfield, ammie mann, indigo girls, joan baez, and tons of other amazing and strong women musicians on it. its for a great cause too! RESPOND Inc. was a pioneer be being one of the 1st programs to offer assistance and shelter to those who have been the victim of domestic violence. The 1st and 2nd cd were done by female musicians whose services were all on a volunteer basis. the proceeds then went to benefit organizations in the fight against domestic violence.
CHEck this OUT! its a great cd with many strong voices.

Icarus

Hey everyone. Does anyone have an explanation of what the song "Icarus" off of Evolve is about? Especially the last parts:

I find descending
flying into the arms of a Venus flytrap

I think it's about a manic-depressive lover. That first part is depression, the Icarus ascending and never looking back, is Mania. Nature's law (Everything that goes up, must come down), your tragic flaw (bipolar),
and then the last parts i don't get. I find descending flying into the arms of another Venus Fly trap
and the guzzle til the buzzer stops part.
the guzzling could be alcoholism, but i don't know.

Anyway, i've recently found out i'm bipolar, and I've been doing all this research. And there's this great website:

Trust DVD

Anyone else watched this yet? It's basically concert footage from her shows in Washington DC back in May 2004. Someone just gave it to me as a gift tonight. Wow. Brought me right back to the live show I saw last April. So beautiful. Sound quality's not the greatest at times, but doesn't really matter.

her new finale

Has anyone else noticed the way Ani has started ending her concerts by inviting the audience to sing along with her???

I LOVE THIS!! It's my favourite part of the concert... I just saw her in Toronto on Monday and I saw her in November in Ottawa and she did it there too. I hope she is doing that everywhere because it's such a folksinger thing to do... The first few times I've seen her she didn't do that...

Absolutely amazing hearing thousands of voices joining her.

Still floating on the after-concert-cloud! Humming and singing to myself!!

Just wondering what some of your 'live' experiences have been... Her concerts have been major highlights of my life!!

In 2002 I read a book about what you'd do if you only had a year to live and the first thing I'd do was go see Ani live (I'd been listening to her since 1991). SO later that year I took a train from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Toronto to see her... Turned out she broke her foot and did the whole concert sitting down!! Just her and her guitar.

The next year, 2003 I drove from Halifax to Portland Maine to see her. That was by FAR the best.. Audience on their feet, they were so into her, just like me (err, US!)... I was in the second row.. One more bonus of going places alone!! Again no band!!

Last year I flew to Ottawa to see her, took a friend with me, wasn't the same - having a friend with me was a bit distracting... She had Todd playing with her, the Bass or Cello or something.. :)

Now I'm off again.. April 18 in Toronto - and I can hardly wait.. 5th ROW!!!

The best moment was in Ottawa last year she played Both Hands and everyone in the place was singing along. Amazing, to actually be able to sing with her!! There are no words to describe that feeling, the room was actually alive!!!

Just wondering other people's highlights!! Best concert, best Moment, Best Memory... Or maybe not best, just notable or interesting...

On Ani's live Portland album (the cd's you can only get from the RBR site), she talks about how they were given cunt wear and wore them at the show that night. So, does anyone know where to find this? I've looked on google and I can't find it among the thousands of porn sites that come up.

And BTW. . . in my opinon, the version of knuckle down on that CD is much cooler than the new CD.

I would *LOVE* to get my hands on a copy of a live recording - those shows were fucking awesome and the song line-ups and versions were really amazing. If anyone knows how I could get ahold of a live recording from one of those shows, PLEASE help me out. I am willing to pay something for it, or if interested I am sure we can figure out a great trade....

She will also play on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (CBS) during the week of January 31st, but we're not sure of the date. I received this thru email, and thought it is worth posting it around, now although I'm well aware that Bush and Kerry are secretly in the same party, and I hate to take that,
"Kerry is the lesser evil stance" but I think it would be much more dangerous and irresponsible to just give up hope and let the Bush dynasty continue. So right now I see this as a viable option until peoples awareness rise up and some real changes, real candidates come to the fold. Since the masses have been led to perceive that it is a tight race, then this is something positive that can be done, to alter the Bush monopoly, even if you ain't down with Kerry, that's fine, but those positive visualizations at the bottom can't hurt the cause.

Saw Ani and Maragret Cho last night. Such a good show. Cho was on for almost an hour and was hilarious. Between the two of them, I am sure they got many folks pissed off and ready to vote. Ani was her adorable self! Cut her hair again, but can she not be cute no matter what? Played tons of new songs that for the most part were amazing. Just thought I would share my delight still after seeing her on at least 12 previous occasions.

If bush wins again and the republicans keep the congress then we are
going to really need to be as united as possible to make sure that by
midterm elections in 3 years we are ready. Not to mention that we will
have to do alot of work ourselves to make up for the social,
environmental, and educational programs that he will do away with. But we can do
it. I have started a project to compile a list of open minded (mostly
left leaning although open mids are the only important thing) organizations, media outlets, and businesses so that we can
set up a web site that will help us connect as never before. (yes there
are some out there but nothing as comprehensive as we need) Why do we
need it? Read the second paragraph again. And OH YEAH. At least 2 SC
Justices may step down within the next 4 year presidency.

Once we get connected then there will be additional ways to organize to
make us more effective. But i'm not even going to start in on that yet.
For now we just need a list. Just imagine what could be done if we
could get two million, intelligent, imaginative, somewhat insane people
working together. All of the educational, political and business
projects that we put in place could be done so in a way that has yet to be
seen. It could be art. Street theater in ways that it has not been used
before to teach the public. Music, painting, sculpture, dance.
Mentoring programs that will actually get more than just the already motivated
kids on the move. (There's alot of potential out there that is being
wasted because it hasn't been motivated correctly)

If you are interested in what we are doing or want to get involved then
please stop by the Renaissance Farms and look over some of the posts.
The details are all there.

TO THE TEETH

About two years ago, I bought the album "To the Teeth" I only heard it once and then my car got broken into and my entire musik collektion got ripped-off. Bye Bye New Ani CD. So then, I go out and buy the album again. This time, my friend accidently inserted the CD into my car,,,not the CD player, but into the car...appherently, there is a small slit perfectly sized for cds...so now, im like, great, the car aint givin it up this time,,no sir-ee. But then, my car gets broken into again, and this time, they take the stereo,,,,again...BYE BYE ANI.

So, Ani, where ever you are, Im sorry to have to do this to ya, but its burnin' time...

Ani's neewest album, Evolve, Is the first one to come out in years that is entirely new studio tracks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the last one was To The Teeth. I have it, I have listened, I have not fallen in love yet. As with most albums, for me, I need to listen to them a few times before I hear what she is really saying. And on top of that, does it sound pretty. Some of the songs on here are relly good, best I've heard in a long time, and others are... well... maybe I should listen to it a few more times.
